Musk tried to limit the rate of threads

Musk called the rate limiting of Threads an “oppressive” move.

Threads has now adopted rate limiting to combat spam, but the move has led Musk to poke fun at Threads, suggesting that they are copying Twitter.

Meta’s Threads was launched earlier this month with much hype and crossed the 100 million user mark in less than a week of launching. The Threads app is positioned as a direct competitor to Twitter, and shares many features with it. Many people flocked to the threads to find a ‘Twitter alternative’ due to recently imposed limits, including rate limiting, which prevents users from viewing more than a certain number of tweets.

Elon Musk and Twitter faced criticism for imposing these limits, with some speculating that it was a move to induce users to buy Twitter Blue. However—ironically, Threads has now taken a similar approach to dealing with spam on its app. The move followed Musk taking a jibe at the threads, suggesting they were copying Twitter.

“Spam attacks have spiked, so we have to get tougher on things like rate capping, which means limiting active people more unintentionally (false positives). if you get stuck [in] Those protections tell us,” said Instagram head Adam Mosseri.

A user posted a screenshot of it and in response Elon Musk said “lmao,” and called it a hoax.

In an earlier reply, Musk had also called the rate limiting of Threads an “oppressive” move.

This is undoubtedly ironic, as users gravitated towards threads to avoid Twitter’s antics, including rate limiting. However, the Threads app—which gained immense popularity and reached 100 million users in less than a week—is now facing the same problem.

Adam Mosseri has stated that users should repeatedly report rate limiting, but this has certainly become a point of debate among Twitter and Threads users, with many defending their platform of choice, and Even suggesting that Musk and Zuckerberg should definitely fight in a cage match.
