Elon Musk on Saturday urged Twitter users to become a verified customer, saying they could earn thousands of dollars a month in advertising revenue sharing.

Without explaining how they could do this without registering 5 million impressions per month with more than 10,000 followers – two key conditions for Twitter to make money through advertising revenue sharing – they asked them to join the Twitter Blue paid subscription.

The Twitter-owned post said, “Many accounts on this platform can earn thousands of dollars per month in advertising revenue sharing if they become verified customers.”

He adds, “It takes 2 minutes to become a verified customer for $7/month (annual plan).”

Several users hit out at him saying that they have been waiting for months to get verified accounts. Others criticized him for not making any money despite having millions of monthly impressions.

“I have Twitter Blue and have had 20-30 million impressions per month for at least the last six months. What do I have to do to get some advertising money? Thanks in advance,” one Twitter user replied to Musk.

Musk further stated that intentional payments are more complex, “but the accumulation of ad revenue share will apply from February”.

“When other people view your profile page, you’ll soon also be getting paid for ads that will almost double,” said the tech billionaire.

Last week, he had said that the micro-blogging platform would “soon” share ad revenue from profile page views.

He has acknowledged that Twitter still has negative cash flow, “due to a 50 percent drop in advertising revenue and a heavy debt load”.

“We need to reach positive cash flow before we can have the luxury of anything else,” he posted last week.
