Senior Inspector Meenal Patil cyber police He said, “The fraud took place between June last year and July this year. During this time the miscreants approached and sold the victim the idea of a job offer. They collected Rs 12 lakh in various transactions. It started with money in the name of their fees. then documentation fee, interview fee, counseling fee, transportation fee and many more charges.”
On Tuesday, the city cyber police registered a case of cheating and common intention.
Patil told TOI, “The victim first got an email from a ‘consultancy firm’. Then he contacted the firm and told them that he was looking for some overseas opportunities. The firm operators promised to help him. After a few days they called him again and told that they have a job opportunity for him. The job was in a German automobile company based in Canada. He immediately agreed and kept making payments in lieu of the said opportunity into the bank account they gave him.”
When the fraudsters kept demanding more money without any concrete result, the victim got suspicious. He said he realized he had been duped and contacted the police.
