Mysore: National Scheduled Caste Commission Member (NCSC) Anju Bala criticized bankers for denying education loans and financial assistance under the centrally sponsored Mudra loan to beneficiaries in Mysuru district on Saturday.
Speaking at a progress review meeting held at the DC office at T Narasipura Road here, he said the central government had launched the flagship scheme of Mudra in 2015 to help the needy, “but banks are not helping”.
According to him, the commission has received a lot of complaints against various banks for rejecting applications seeking financial assistance under the scheme. Since the purpose of loan disbursement is to promote small and medium-sized business activities apart from education, he directed the district head bank officials to submit detailed reports of the currency and education loans borrowed by the beneficiaries in the district.
Anju also demanded the bankers to mention the reasons on which grounds the applications were rejected.

He also set a deadline for the district administration to submit the report to the commission within 15 days. He also targeted the officials for ignoring the show cause notices issued by the commission regarding complaints, denial of benefits, violation of rights. He said that the implementing officers should respond to the notices of the Commission.
Notices will be issued to the erring officers through DC and City Police Commissioner, SP level officers. In case of non-receipt of reply, the Commission will send warrant through DGP or Chief Secretary.
He also appreciated the district police for paying heed to complaints related to atrocities against Scheduled Castes.
Earlier, DC KV Rajender briefed the officials about the measures initiated by the district to promote education of SC students, bring back school dropouts and rehabilitate them both at primary and higher education levels .
