Udhagamandalam: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has condemned the Nilgiris police for deliberately preventing his party cadres from carrying out a rally when their candidate filed nomination on Monday.
He also accused police of registering false cases and filing FIRs against 20 AIADMK functionaries, including its district secretary Kappachi D Vinoth.
He further stated that when party cadres and workers staged a dharna to protest the delay in permitting the rally, police lathicharged them. He also expressed confidence that the DMK, which he alleges was behind the crackdown, will be defeated in the election.
He added that the AIADMK will initiate legal action against the Ooty police and insist that the Election Commission act against police.
