Musk wants “one everything app”
Last year, Musk outlined the ingredients needed to build an “app of everything” as part of the company’s Twitter 2.0 roadmap. “Buying Twitter is an accelerator to build X, everything apps,” Musk said in October last year. “Twitter probably exaggerates X by 3 to 5 years, but I could be wrong,” he replied to a user on the same tweet thread.
Musk has also talked a lot about bringing encryption to direct messages or DMs, monetizing videos, long-form texts, and payments. also gave an example of WeChatAn instant messaging, social media and mobile payment app developed by Tencent.
“It either turns Twitter into [everything app]Or start something new. It needs to happen somehow,” he said, adding that America needs a super app.
“If you’re in China, you live on WeChat. It does everything. It’s like Twitter, plus paypalPlus a lot of things rolled into one, with a great interface. It’s a really outstanding app, and we don’t have anything like it outside of China,” Musk told listeners during a podcast last year.
In December last year, leaked images for “Twitter Coins” were found. These coins were dubbed as a secret in-development digital asset that could be used for payments and tipping on the platform in the future.
