Explained: The Mystery Behind the ‘Hidden’ 200GB Subscription Plan of Google One | – Times of India

Google recently renamed its ChatGPT rival Bard to Gemini. The company also announced Gemini support for Android smartphones as well as iPhones. Along with these announcements, Google also announced a Google One AI Premium plan. The all-new Google One AI Premium plan claims to offer the best of Google’s AI features in a single place. As Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a blog post, “This premium plan builds off the popular Google One service offering expanded storage and exclusive product features.”

Priced at Rs 6,500 per year, Google One Premium AI plan offers subscribers 2TB storage, access to Google experts, sharing with up to five others, extra member benefits, additional editing features in Google Photos and Dark Web monitoring. AI features that come with the plan include free access to Gemini Advanced.
‘Mystery’ of Google 200GB plan not showing for some users
Ever since Google launched Google One AI Premium plan, there have been reports that some users are not able to see the 200GB storage plan. For those unaware, the 200GB Google One plan is priced at Rs 2,100 per year and offers all the same features as Google One’s 2TB plan, Google One AI Premium plan, except for free access to Gemini Advanced.
Incidentally, TOI Tech checked at its end these claims and found that 200GB plan is not the only one that is not appearing for some users. There are four other plans under the “Premium” tag that offer 5TB, 10TB, 20TB and 30TB storage that are not appearing for some users.

While there is no official confirmation or explanation from Google on the same, during our testing, we found that the reason some users are not seeing is the subscription plan. Most Google One subscribers that TOI Tech team checked with, including those on the base 100GB plan, priced at Rs 1300 are able to see all the storage plans (200GB, 5TB, 10TB, 20TB and 30TB).
However, users who are not Google One subscribers are not seeing all the options. For those who haven’t subscribed to Google One, Google lists the Basic (100GB), Premium and the new AI Premium plans.
The reason may be Google One subscription itself. Now, if you have an active Google One subscription with one of the available plans. TOI Tech verified this and found that Google One members can see all the Premium tier plans mentioned above.
All in all, the plans are there and not hidden as such, but appear limited to those who have Google One subscription.
Incidentally, Google has also confirmed to 9to5Google that users who have subscribed to Google One can upgrade or downgrade to the 200GB plan.
