Explosion injuries 5 children in Baghpat | Lucknow News – Times of India

SHAMLI: Five children, between 8 years and 13 years, were severely injured after an explosion in Ketipura area of Baghpat on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the explosion occurred at the residence of Mohammad Wakeel, a labourer. All the injured children are Wakeel’s sons — Jahid, Shahid, Majid, Armaan, and Wahid. They were rushed to the district hospital in critical condition by their relatives.Majid has been transferred to another medical facility.
Local sources revealed that the children were involved in waste segregation work and had received a polythene bag along with the garbage heap. The children took the bag to their house, and suddenly there was an explosion.
Forensic and fire department police teams were dispatched to the scene under the directive of authorities to investigate.
SP Baghpat Arpit Vijayvargiya said, “The preliminary investigation found that 13-year-old Jahid had acquired sulphur and potassium, which led to the explosion while they were preparing the mixture. This resulted in injuries to all five children. Further investigation is ongoing.”
