Sources said the BJP’s national executive will also deliberate on the strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, Karnataka and Telangana.

The term of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda is officially set for extension at least till the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The decision is likely to be announced at an organizational meeting of the saffron party to be held in the national capital next month.

Sources said that the BJP’s national executive will also discuss the strategy for the assembly elections to be held in 2023.

News18 had first reported on August 29 this year that the BJP was planning to extend Nadda’s tenure till the 2024 general elections.

The extension of Nadda’s tenure is on expected lines as the BJP chief has a good working relationship with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The top three leaders have been working together for the past few years on the party’s strategy and campaigns across the country. Sources said there is good coordination and mutual trust between the three.

The next organizational election is expected to be held after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Nadda’s predecessor Amit Shah also got an extension to lead the party’s preparations for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Nadda was moved from the central government to the organization after Shah joined the Narendra Modi government.

Sources said the organizational change may be postponed as assembly elections are due in Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya in the next two years, followed by assembly elections in Karnataka and Telangana. After the elections of these states, the Lok Sabha elections will be held in 2024.
