Farmers’ organizations oppose WHO’s agenda to replace tobacco farming with alternative crops

Federation of All India Farmer Association (FAIFA) has appealed to the global farming community to come together to oppose WHO’s ‘Don’t Grow Tobacco’ agenda, which advocates replacement of tobacco cultivation with alternative crops Is.

The association in a press release here on Friday emphasized that this year the theme of the World Health Organization (WHO) primarily revolves around agriculture and sustainable farming for the food industry.

It called on global farming communities to question WHO’s claim that tobacco crops have a detrimental effect on sustainable agriculture and contribute to the global food crisis. FAIFA said that tobacco cultivation occupies only 0.25% of the cultivated land globally.

“We believe that agriculture is not an area in which the World Health Organization (WHO) should be involved,” the association said.

“WHO has not conducted any large scale experiments or studies to establish that tobacco can be replaced with similar beneficial alternatives under similar agricultural climate and soil conditions. This absence of research raises concerns about the agenda being pursued by WHO.”
