Files by Google gets built-in document scanner – Times of India

Google Drive recently received the improved document scanner and now it looks like Google is extending it to its Files app as well. Android Police has reported that Files app has received a minor design refresh along with a couple of new features.
Spotted by @Nail_Sadykov, Files app is receiving a new Floating Action Button for document scanner. The functionality of the button is more or less the same as we have seen on the Drive app. Also, the implementation appears to be almost similar to that of the Drive app.
Tapping on the new floating button triggers the documnet scanner’s viewfinder with two modes — Manual and Auto Capture. The first mode allows users to frame manually and get a document scanned as per their choice. The second mode is basically powered by machine learning and it automatically detects the best frame and crop for the scanned document and captures accordingly. In this mode the image gets captured automatically.
Editing tools are available
No matter which mode you’ve chosen to capture the document, Files app has a range of editing options built in just like the Drive app. It includes the option to add filers, re-crop, among others.
Files once scanned gets saved automatically within the Files app. The destination is Files by Google/Scanned option.
The new integrated document scanner is now a part of Files by Google app version 1.1737.587592893. To get the feature, update your app via Google Play Store. Also, it is expected to be a server side rollout so, it may take a while before it becomes available to everyone.
Google Drive integration coming to Files
Apart from all the new features and changes Files and Drive app are getting. Google is also integrating Drive app within the Files by Google app. With the integration, it will be much easier for users to access files and documents stored within Google Drive.
