FIR against wrestlers protesting towards new parliament after march

Delhi Police has registered an FIR against a group of wrestlers who were protesting against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. An FIR has been lodged after a scuffle broke out after protesters, including national wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, tried to march towards the new Parliament building inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The organizers of the march are also named in the police FIR. The police have registered a case against the organizers for rioting and obstructing the work of public servants.

Police said that 700 people were detained across Delhi, including 109 protesters at Jantar Mantar. According to a senior police officer, the FIR was registered under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to public servant) Has been. discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

All the women protesters, including wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat, were released late on Sunday evening. Around 14 protesters from Najafgarh who were detained from Janpath were released at around 10 pm and 16 protesters including Palam Khap President Surendra Solanki were released from Vasant Vihar police station at around 10.30 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to unveil it on Sunday when he organized a women’s panchayat outside the newly built Parliament House in Delhi.

Several opposition parties have criticized the authorities for not arresting BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and have expressed solidarity with the protesting wrestlers. The Delhi Police had registered two FIRs, including one under the POCSO Act, against Singh, who has denied all the charges. Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule and Left leaders condemned the treatment meted out to the protesting wrestlers .
