Fire breaks out in Coimbatore pump manufacturing unit Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: A fire broke in pump manufacturing unit Feather Elango Nagar in Coimbatore in the early hours of Friday. Motor pumps and other items worth over Rs 2 crore were gutted.
The fire broke out at SKB Industries in Rajagopal Layout, where water pumps are being made for domestic needs.
After completing the work on Thursday night all the employees left.
The fire broke out in the industry between 1.30 pm and 1.45 pm on Friday. Locals informed 34-year-old S Vignesh, owner of SKB Industries, about Velappanaikenapudur, who in turn alerted the Ganapathy Fire Service Station.
The fire brigade reached the spot around two o’clock. Two more fire tenders from Peelamedu fire station and Coimbatore South station reached the spot.
Over 35 fire and rescue personnel, led by Assistant District Fire Officer Alagarasamy and Station Fire Officers G Ravikumar, Shivakumar and Velusamy, sprinkled water to douse the flames. The fire was brought under control around 8:30 in the morning.
Around 1,500 pumps were kept ready in carton boxes for supply across the country. Machinery, two tons of copper and raw materials were burnt to ashes.
Vignesh told the police officials that property worth about Rs two crore has been damaged in the fire incident.
Coimbatore city police commissioner V Balakrishnan inspected the spot on Friday morning. He directed the police officers to register a case and advised the industry management to take necessary precautions to prevent such fire incidents in future. Peelamedu police have registered a case and started further action.
