At least 25 people, including six women from the same family, were killed in flash floods in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Wednesday following torrential rains. After this a state of emergency had to be declared in Quetta district. The death toll is feared to rise as many are missing.
Nasir Ahmed Nassar, director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, said all the deaths were due to rain-related incidents in many parts of Balochistan. There have also been incidents of many people getting injured in the torrential rains. Many people are still reported missing in Balochistan so many more deaths are possible.
Nassar said that more than 300 kutcha houses have been damaged in Quetta district. In Quetta, 6 women of a family died after the wall of their temporary house collapsed due to rain and strong winds.
Most of the deaths are from rain-borne accidents
The two injured women died because there was no arrangement to take them to the hospital. Three women and four children were also killed when a house collapsed on the outskirts of Quetta. The Balochistan government has declared a state of emergency in Quetta district. Bodies of two girls who lost their lives due to drowning in deep pond in Quetta were recovered from Bhosa Mandi area. Three children drowned in water in Mand area, while two women in Dasht area of Mastung district died after the wall of their house collapsed.
