Thiruvananthapuram: Loyola School Trivandrum has rewritten history by welcoming girl students for the first time since its inception in 1961. Total 100 girls appeared in class XI in ICSE and CBSE Block at school on Thursday.
According to CBSE Block Principal Father Roy Alex SJ, the decision to admit girls to the school was the result of following National Also to lay importance on co-education and inclusivity in education policy and campus. “All the arrangements and facilities for these students including work on over 20 toilets in both the blocks were completed at least a week in advance,” he added.
It was Rev. Father Joseph Edamaram SJ, the first provincial Kerala Province of Jesuits who established the school at Palayam in 1961 with Fr KV john sj As the first Principal and only 36 students on its rolls.
It was the third Principal, Father Antony Vachaparambil SJ, who was instrumental in shifting the school to the present premises in 1963. This was followed by the introduction of the ICSE curriculum and the granting of affiliation with the University of Cambridge.
A separate single-storey junior school compound and a pavilion and canteen complex were built in 1971–73, which was recognized by the Central Government as the first boys’ school in Kerala for the placement of National Merit Scholars.
The parents of the new students have full faith in the administration and faculty of the school to provide excellence in academics as well as co-curricular activities.
