For the first time, Pope Francis nominated women to the Committee on the Selection of Bishops

Pope Francis said he wanted to give women a more high-level position in the Holy See.

Vatican City:

The Vatican said on Wednesday that Pope Francis has named three women, two nuns and a commoner, to a former men’s committee that advises them on the selection of the world’s bishops.

He disclosed the decision in an exclusive interview with Reuters earlier this month, explaining that he wanted to give women more top-level positions in the Holy See.

The three women are Sister Raffaella Petrini, who is currently deputy governor of Vatican City, French nun Yvonne Reungote, and Maria Lia Zervino, head of the Association of Women’s Catholic Organizations UMOFC.
