Former beauty queen, allegedly involved in $1.5 million liquor theft, arrested

A former beauty queen from Mexico has been arrested for her involvement in a burglary at a Spanish restaurant in which millions of dollars in alcohol were stolen. According to a report in WireSpanish media have identified the woman as Priscilla Lara Guevara, who once took part in the “Miss Earth” contest. The outlet further said in its report quoting Spanish media, 28-year-old, along with Romanian-Dutch man Konstantin Gabriel Dumitru, stole $1.5 million worth of vintage bottles.

The theft happened in October last year at El Atrio, one of Spain’s most prestigious hotel-restaurants. Ms Guevara and Mr Dumitru were caught this week from Montenegro in Croatia, ending a nine-month search, said Wire,

The outlet further said that Ms Guevara allegedly “distracted” the waiters by ordering room service after the kitchen at the restaurant was closed. According to Spanish police, his accomplice opened the wine cellar with the master key and disappeared with several expensive bottles in his bag.

The couple was caught on CCTV leaving the restaurant, following which a search began. This included the Spanish, Dutch, Croatian and Romanian police as well as Interpol.

He was eventually arrested after being recognized by Croatian border guards as he crossed through Montenegro.

The couple appears to be living in Croatia. Now he is to be extradited to Spain.
