Three posts in the council are former DCM Laxman Savadi, Baburao Chinchanasura and BJP nominated R. were vacant due to Shankar’s resignation.

Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar took oath as Congress MLC at Vidhana Soudha here on Monday. Along with him, Minister for Minor Irrigation and Water Resources NS Bosaraju and senior leader Tippannappa Kamkanur also took oath as council members in the presence of the chief minister. Siddaramaiah.

All three were elected to the Legislative Council as the BJP did not field any candidate.

Council President Basavaraj Horatti administered the oath of office to the members and welcomed them.

Three posts in the council were former DCM Laxman Savadi, Baburao Chinchanasura and the then BJP nominated R.K. were vacant due to Shankar’s resignation.

Savadi joined Congress and is now an MLA from Athani constituency.

All the three posts have now been captured by the Congress candidates.

The development is being seen as a comeback for Shettar who lost the election from the Hubballi-Dharwad Central seat.

However, Shettar’s move to join the Congress and quit the BJP before the elections proved beneficial for the Congress to break into the BJP’s Lingayat vote bank.

As the session begins, Shettar will attend the session for the first time as a member of the Congress party and sources reveal that the Congress is all set to use him as a shield against the BJP in the House.

Reportedly, Shettar has been instructed to launch an aggressive campaign against the BJP on various issues.
