Four Congress MPs suspended for entire monsoon session due to uproar in the House; Lok Sabha adjourned till tomorrow

Four Congress MPs were on Monday suspended from the Lok Sabha for the entire monsoon session after they showed placards and disrupted Parliament despite a warning from Speaker Om Birla. The suspended Congress MPs are Manickam Tagore, TN Pratapan, Jothimani and Ramya Haridas.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi later moved a motion to suspend the four MPs. The House then passed the resolution by voice vote and Rajendra Agrawal, who was presiding over the proceedings of the House, announced his suspension.

sources told CNN-News18 That four MPs were suspended because they showed placards in the House despite promising to cooperate in the smooth functioning of the House.

According to sources, Birla had warned the opposition MPs that if the members continued to protest beyond 3 pm, they could be asked to leave the house. After the warning, all the MPs met in the Speaker’s chamber.

The opposition parties had then promised Speaker Birla not to create ruckus in the House. But despite their assurances, MPs showed placards when the House resumed after 3 pm.

Earlier, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 3 pm amid opposition’s protest over inflation. Speaker Om Birla had warned the protesting members, including Congress, TMC and DMK, that those who keep raising slogans and showing placards will have to do so outside the House after 3 pm.

When the House resumed after 3 pm, an irritated Birla told the opposition that the government was ready to discuss the issues raised by them and insisted that the people wanted the House to run.

Later, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 11 am tomorrow.
