The deceased was a native of Uddavolu village under Theerlam mandal of Krishna district and was a government teacher in Kallamrajupeta village and lived in Rajam town of Vizianagaram district.
Superintendent of Police, Vizianagaram, Deepika M said Mardana Venkata Naidu and his family members killed Krishna to gain supremacy and political edge in Uddavolu village.
Krishna played an important role in Uddavolu’s politics as a supporter of TDP for the last few years. He had enmity with his rival, Panchayat level YSRC leader Mardana Venkata Naidu. Venkat Naidu reportedly lost to his rival, who was indirectly supported by teacher Krishna, in the 2021 panchayat polls.
Mardana Venkata Naidu, who is also a civil works contractor, constructed some buildings and establishments in Udavolu village. However, Krishna filed a petition in the AP High Court regarding the illegal construction of a building by Naidu. The petition resulted in delay in the sanction of the bills for the works, as a result of which Venkat Naidu suffered some loss (about two crore rupees) and faced financial hardship.
So, Venkat Naidu decides to eliminate Krishna and hatches a plan with his family members and Reiki for the crime. As a part of the plan, Venkata Naidu informed his brother Mardana Mohan Rao that Krishna was on his way from Rajam to Kallamrajupeta on a bike. Mohan Rao and Reddy Ramu, who were waiting in the Bolero van, followed Krishna and killed Krishna by hitting him with the van. They dragged his vehicle for at least 200 meters and attacked him with iron rods as he was still alive after the accident. Deepika M said, later they left the van and fled from the spot.
However, tension prevailed in Udavolu village for hours after locals tried to attack houses of accused persons Mardana Venkata Naidu and others with petrol. They raised slogans against the YSRC leaders and demanded strict action against the accused persons. A large number of police had to struggle a lot to pacify the protesters.
Vizianagaram police chief Deepika said police picketing would continue in the village to prevent any untoward incident. He also appealed to the people to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order in the village.
