Four Loot Accused Arrested After Encounter in Jaunpur | Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: Four suspected looters were arrested in Jaunpur late on Tuesday night following a brief exchange of gunfire with police. One of the suspects sustained a leg injury during the encounter.
Acting on intelligence, cops from Sureri police station initiated an alert, prompting collaboration with Rampur, Nevadhia, and Barsathi police stations.

A coordinated effort ensued, with officers cordoning off the area between Chherhati culvert and Sureri turning via Rampur, and conducting a comprehensive search operation.
During the operation, officers signalled four individuals approaching Sureri turning from Bhadohi road to stop. However, the individuals opened fire and attempted to flee.
In self-defence, the police retaliated. One suspect, identified as Mahesh Patel from Badagaon, Varanasi, sustained a leg wound and was arrested. The remaining three suspects — Nilesh Patel, Brijesh Yadav, and Aniruddh Yadav — were also caught by the joint police team.
A pistol, live ammunition, two motorcycles, Rs 6,500 in cash, and four mobile phones were recovered from the suspects. All four individuals reportedly have a history of criminal activity, including targeting jewellers and other merchants for loot.
