Rajkot: Four members of a family drowned after their car plunged into the Bhadar river in Rajkot district on Rajkot-Porbandar highway on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Dinesh Thummar (55) who was driving the car, his wife Lilavanti Thummar (50), their daughter Hardika (20) and Lilavati’s elder sister Sangita Koyani (52).

The incident took place on a bridge near Dhoraji town, said deputy superintendent of police R A Dodia.
According to the police, Dinesh lost control of the vehicle after one of the tyres burst while crossing the bridge on Bhadar river on Dhoraji-Jamnagar road. The family was residing in Dhoraji town of Rajkot district and had gone to Madasan village to attend a religious function. The police booked deceased Dinesh Thummar for culpable homicide and under the Motor Vehicle Act.
The incident took place at around 8.30 am on Wednesday. The police and fire brigade soon began a rescue operation and recovered the bodies of all the four who were travelling in the car. Police said that Dinesh was a farmer. Meanwhile, kin of the deceased, Yagnik Thummar said that eyes of all the deceased were donated at the Dhoraji hospital.
