Snow is falling: Cold wave continues to wreak havoc in North India, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and many areas of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Friday night.

Uttarakhand received fresh snowfall on Saturday morning, covering several cities in a thick blanket of snow. According to reports, there was fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of Joshimath, Chamoli district and the holy shrine of Badrinath.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has predicted “light to moderate rain/snow” at most places in the state. It said that the Pandukeshwar area where the Badrinath temple is located is covered with 2 feet of snow.

Although the minimum temperature did not reach negative degrees. The maximum temperature in the hilly areas of the state remained above normal, the report said.

Fresh snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

Meanwhile, many parts of Himachal Pradesh were also covered in thick blanket of snow. Trees and houses in Mandhol were covered in white while locals preferred to stay warm in their homes amid heavy snowfall.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Himachal Pradesh recorded a maximum and minimum temperature of 6 degree Celsius and -4 degree Celsius respectively on Saturday. The higher reaches of the state received snowfall in Narkanda, Manali and Malana villages of Kullu district.

Fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir

Meanwhile, fresh snowfall in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir brought down the temperature significantly. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of the Doda region and rain in the plains have brought down the temperature graph once again.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of eight degrees Celsius and zero degrees Celsius respectively on Saturday.

The Regional Meteorological Center said, “The entire region is under the grip of cold wave and people have been forced to wear warm clothes and stay indoors. Crowds of people disappeared in Doda markets as people braved the cold wave.” Cause preferred to stay indoors.”
