Garhwa Plans 165 Playfields To Lure Youths Away From Smartphones | Ranchi News – Times of India

RANCHI: Garhwa, tagged as a district of concern among the aspirational list of districts by the Niti Aayog, has strategised a plan to construct 165 playgrounds across its 189 panchayats by November 15 this year under the state government’s Veer Sahid Poto Ho Khel Vikas Scheme to engage rural youths and students in a constructive manner through sports.
Speaking to TOI, Garhwa deputy commissioner (DC) Shekhar Jamuar on Saturday said the empowered committee of the Niti Aayog gave its nod to the plan earlier this week. Funds to the tune of around Rs 3 crore would be invested to set up the infrastructure.
“In April, the district got a reward money of Rs 3 crore from the Niti Aayog for our performance in undertaking development schemes. Ours is a district of concern due to the problems of left wing extremism. However, things are rapidly changing now. We will use the reward money to lay the playgrounds,” he stated.
In the past, the administration had created around 65 playgrounds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) at abandoned areas.
