Looking back at Rocket Singh and her performance, Gauahar Khan expressed her belief that the film was way ahead of its time.
In 2009, Gauahar Khan took her first step into Bollywood with the movie Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, where she shared the screen with Ranbir Kapoor. Now, looking back at the film and her performance, Gauahar feels that if the movie was released in today’s time, she might have been considered among the big superstars in the industry. During a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, the actress expressed her belief that the film was way ahead of its time and feels confident that if it was released today, it would have been a blockbuster, due to its strong script and stellar performances. However, she also believes that everything happens for a purpose.
The former Bigg Boss contestant said, “I got a nomination, I was debut and Best Supporting Actor, and I got one award as well. I think if it had released today, I would probably have been the next superstar to have hit the market. But I also believe that everything happens for the best. If I hadn’t debuted with Rocket Singh I wouldn’t be the actor that I am today. I was exposed right at the beginning.”
“I think it would have been the biggest blockbuster with the kind of film it was, the kind of writing it had and the kind of actors that it had. It just came way ahead of its time and at that time, the industry was not ready for a film like that. For a simple film that was so strong on paper and so strong in performances, it should have probably swept all the awards that year,” Gauahar Khan added.
She further admired her Rocket Singh co-star Ranbir Kapoor, as she’s genuinely happy and proud of his recent achievements in the industry, specifically with the projects he’s been involved in and the impressive box office numbers they’ve generated. The actress also believes that he is yet to receive the recognition he deserves as an actor and highlights his exceptional performance in Barfi, which she considers his finest work.
Gauahar Khan is also thrilled about the success of films like Brahmastra and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, as they have not only elevated his status as an actor but the box office collection was also great.
Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, directed by Shimit Amin, features a talented ensemble cast. Apart from Gauahar Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, D Santosh and Naveen Kaushik also played important roles. The film also featured actors such as Prem Chopra and Manish Chaudhari, along with Shazahn Padamsee, who is the daughter of Alyque Padamsee and Sharon Prabhakar.
