Gauhar Khan is a well-known name of TV. Bollywood And has also stepped into OTT. She has been a part of some of the most loved projects- be it Rocket Singh, Begum Jaan or Tandav. But did you know that the actress also auditioned for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. In fact, she had cleared 5 rounds of auditions, and in a recent interview she revealed why she lost out on the project.
Speaking to Film Companion, Gauahar revealed, “I lost one of the biggest projects in my life because I was so good looking for it, and it was Slumdog Millionaire. I met Danny Boyle, and I did five rounds of auditions for it. After the fifth round he said ‘You are a great actor, are you sure you are trained in India?’ At that time, I had hardly any experience, and I said ‘I trained in India’. He said, ‘You speak like an actor who is from outside India and not from India, so how was that experience for you?’ I said ‘Sir I don’t know, I just try and do it every day’. He said, ‘You are such a fab actor but somehow I won’t be able to cast you here because I have to match three age groups and I can’t keep you from your face in Slumdog Millionaire. I said, ‘I might be in a slum’.”
He also revealed how director Shimit Amin insisted on making him less handsome for Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. Gauahar said, “In Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, I tried not to look too good. Shimit sir used to say put more pink on his eyes and cheeks, and more shimmery lipstick on him, because that look , the character was there. She was not meant to look super good looking… Shimit sir still used to say ‘she still looks very beautiful, put more makeup on her’.
The actress was recently seen in films like 14 Phere and OTT series The Bestseller opposite Arjan Bajwa.
