Global shipments of total devices (PCs, tablets and mobile phones) are expected to decline by 4.4 percent this year to 1.7 billion units, a report showed on Tuesday.

According to Gartner, in 2022, the shipment market of the devices is set to decline by 11.9 percent globally.

Ranjit Atwal, senior director analyst at Gartner, said, “The slowing economic market will continue to reduce demand for devices through 2023.

“We do not expect a relief from inflation and bottoming out of recession until the fourth quarter of 2023,” Atwal said.

By the end of 2023, Gartner expects more than 25% of business PCs to be upgraded to Windows 11.

However, Windows 11 won’t sell enough to reach the same volume seen between 2020 and 2022.

Worldwide smartphone shipments may decline by 4 percent in 2023. Smartphone shipments are forecast to total 1.230 billion units in 2023, down from 1.280 billion units in 2022.

“Consumers are holding onto their phones for six to nine months longer than expected, and are moving away from fixed to flexible contracts in the absence of meaningful new technology,” Atwal said.

Moreover, vendors are passing on the inflationary component costs to the users which is further reducing the demand. End-user spending on mobile phones is projected to decline by 3.8 percent in 2023.
