Google Drive for desktop app receives new update, comes with file recovery tool to find missing files – Times of India

Google Drive, back in November, suffered from a sync issue which led to missing files and caused panic among users. Due to this, months and years of Drive files went missing. The issue was present in the Drive for desktop version 84.0.0.0-84.0.4.0.
Google Drive for desktop gets a file recovery tool
Googlehas now updated the Drive for desktop to version 85.0.13.0.The update fixes the issue from the previous version and also introduces a new built-in file recovery tool that lets users find those missing files and recover them.
How does Drive’s new recovery tool work?
Google Drive on desktop now features a recovery tool that scans the entire drive for the missing or accidentally deleted files, even from users and allows them to be recovered. It basically recovers the files from backups.
Also, Drive notifies users once the recovery process has started and also the process has been completed. Also, the restored files gets stored in a new folder titled “Google Drive Recovery”. This folder will also include the unsynced files on Drive for desktop that was caused due to the bug in the previous version.
How efficeient it is
If you’ve used any recovery tool before, then you must be aware of the fact that it is not 100% efficient. That said, Google has the native solution and we expect it to work relatively more efficiently compared to the third party solutions.
Also, Google has added a feedback center for this particular feature in case some users are unable to use it or the feature isn’t working as expected. The official support page clearly mentions, “”If you’ve tried to run the recovery tool and are experiencing issues, submit feedback through the Drive for desktop app with the hashtag ‘#DFD84’ and make sure to check the box to include diagnostic logs”.
