Google ‘kills’ a popular social media feature for YouTube – Times of India

Google-owned video streaming platform YouTube introduced stories facility in 2017. The feature allowed users to put up temporary posts that would expire in June. “Starting 6/26/2023 (June 26) option to create a new youtube story will no longer be available. Stories that are already live on that date will expire seven days after they were originally shared, the company said in a blog post.
YouTube has also shared the reason for ending this feature. The company says there are “many ways to make money on YouTube,” including long-form, shorts and live, “To prioritize these key features, Stories is moving away,” the company said. Instead, YouTube is asking content creators to focus on community posts and YouTube Shorts.
YouTube recommendations for creators
YouTube Communities enables creators to share updates, start conversations, or promote their YouTube content to their viewers. “Creators using both Posts and Stories on average drive many times more comments and likes than Stories,” the company said.
This feature is available to YouTube creators and includes some aspects of Stories. This includes editing tools and the ability for posts to expire after 24 hours. With this feature, creators can access new engagement features including polls, quizzes, filters and stickers.
YouTube has also asked creators to “reach new audiences” with the short video format, Shorts. Company believes Shorts On average, there are many times more subscribers than Stories.

Shorts Camera includes mobile video tools such as adding text or filters, or editing other content. YouTube promises to bring more exciting features to the Shorts experience. The company recently launched the ability to reply to comments with Shorts.
