Google is ready to bring satellite tech with its new Pixel 9 series
Google has been testing satellite tech for Android with the new version and the Pixel 9 series could benefit from its addition this year.
Google Pixel smartphones are quite popular for their artificial intelligence (AI) features and their incredible camera abilities, powered by their smart photography tools. Google is expected to launch the Pixel 8a next month, but tech enthusiasts are already looking forward to the debut of the Pixel 9 series by the end of this year.
There have been many new rumours regarding the Pixel 9 Series. It is expected that Google will introduce some new features in its flagship model. According to reports, the tech giant will reportedly add satellite connectivity to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, which will be similar to Apple’s Emergency SOS feature.
As per reports from Android Authority, Google will be offering a new safety net to the users of its latest Pixel 9 series. This new safety feature will be similar to Apple’s SOS feature and will help users in times of emergency. The tech company has announced that the Pixel 9’s Tensor G4 chipset will be equipped with a new Samsung Modem 5400 as opposed to the Samsung 5300 modem, which was used in the Pixel 8 series.
It is expected that the new 5400 modem will have upgraded software offering better stability to support Android’s native satellite implementation. Google is planning to partner with T-Mobile for the feature, with other providers to join later. Google is also aiming to add this SOS emergency feature to the Pixel Fold 2 and a 5G-enabled Pixel Tablet as well.
Google’s SOS, similar to Apple’s emergency feature, will ask users a series of questions to assess their situation when activated. Some of the questions that the feature could ask are:
– What happened?
– [Are you/Are they/Is everyone] breathing?
– In total, how many people are [missing/trapped]?
– What best describes your situation?
– What is on fire?
Reportedly, this new SOS feature will have a set of predefined answers to choose from for the following questions, so that users can be provided with assistance quickly. Users will also get the option to alert their emergency contacts with this new feature. Apart from the Google assistance, it is reported that the SOS feature will also allow users to send text messages.
