Bollywood actor and former MP Govinda visited the Trimbakeshwar temple in Trimbak, Maharashtra on Wednesday and sought blessings. Accompanied by his brother Kirti and son Yash, Govinda bowed in reverence, marking a significant spiritual moment. He was felicitated by the temple authorities and priests. After his recent entry into the Shiv Sena, there was speculation about Govinda’s possible candidature from the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency. Govinda preferred not to comment on the matter and remained tight-lipped. Govinda’s foray into politics dates back to 2004 when he triumphed over Union minister Ram Naik on a Congress ticket and grabbed national attention. Now, he has made his comeback to politics.

As Govinda’s political aspirations gain momentum, his visit to Trimbakeshwar serves as a poignant reminder of the intertwining of spirituality and public service, leaving both devotees and political observers eagerly awaiting his next move.

Recently, Govinda joined the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. “There was ‘vanvaas’ from 2010 to 2024,” he said, recalling his stint in politics from 2004-2009. “I am joining the Shiv Sena and it is a blessing from God. I thought I would not enter politics anymore,” Govinda said.

“It (vanvaas) is over. I have entered the Ram Rajya under Shinde ji,” he added. Govinda joined the Congress party in 2004 and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mumbai North, where he lost to Ram Naik of the BJP. He continued his film career while serving as a Lok Sabha MP. In January 2008, he decided to quit politics and focus on his acting career.

Govinda is an Indian actor, comedian, dancer and politician who has acted in more than 165 Hindi films. Considered as one of the greatest and most culturally significant Indian actors of all time, Govinda is known for his slapstick performances and dance skills. He has been nominated for 12 Filmfare Awards and won two Filmfare Special Awards and a Filmfare Award for Best Comedian.
