Grandfather of a Ludhiana jail clerk dies mysteriously at residential quarter; murder suspected | Chandigarh News – Times of India

LUDHIANA: An elderly man, the grandfather of Ludhiana jail employee Abdul Gufar, died under mysterious circumstances in the residential quarters within Ludhiana Central Jail premises on Thursday night. It is alleged that the elderly man died from burn injuries.
While the family claimed they had gone out for Eid celebrations while the elderly man was at home and a short circuit caused the fire, the police are finding the case suspicious.They stated that a murder suspicion cannot be ruled out.
The deceased, identified as Jamal Deen, 86, was the father of a clerk at Ludhiana Central Jail who passed away during COVID, following which his son Abdul Gufar secured the job on compensatory grounds. Abdul Gufar was posted at the head office but was provided accommodation in Ludhiana.
Sub-Inspector Bhupinder Singh, SHO at Division Number 7 police station, stated, “The police received information late Thursday night. Other residents of the quarter informed the police that they noticed smoke emitting from the accommodation, prompting them to enter. The elderly man was alone at home, lying on the bed, and had suffered burn injuries. Some part of the bed was also unaffected while the rest of the house and belongings were unharmed.”
The SI added that according to Abdul Gufar, he and his family had gone out for Eid celebrations when the incident occurred with his grandfather. The forensic team has been summoned to the site, and further investigation is underway.
