Hundreds of Safai Karamcharis of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Thursday protested at their headquarters demanding pending salaries.

Hyderabad: Hundreds of sanitation workers Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Thursday held a protest at its headquarters demanding pending salaries. At least 300 workers appeared outside GHMC Commissioner’s office with placards criticizing Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The officials soon intervened and assured of payment of dues following which the protesters dispersed.
Addressing the media, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees Union (GHMEU) President U Gopal Said that the biometric machines hired by the civic body went off in the blink of an eye, resulting in loss of salaries of many employees. He demanded that GHMC buy its own biometric machine for attendance to avoid undue deduction.
“Around 700 people have been fired and they have not even been paid. We have issued several representations to the GHMC commissioner and zonal officers on several occasions, but nothing has been done.” Gopal Told.
He said that when the CM also promised to make outsourced employees permanent, it was unfair to lay off hundreds of existing employees.
