Guneet Monga on her Oscar nomination for ‘The Elephant Whispers’: I wanted to skip my honeymoon and run away to LA – Times of India

Producer Guneet Monga, known for helming critically acclaimed films like ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and the Oscar-winning documentary ‘Period’. End of Sentence’, will fly to Los Angeles this week in hopes of bringing home another Oscar.
Before flying out of the country to begin the final leg of campaigning ahead of the big Oscar night, Guneet sat down for a telephonic chat with ETimes where she opened up about her Oscar nomination. Monga said, “I remember I landed on 21st December for my honeymoon and that was when I was shortlisted. I wanted to skip the honeymoon and run away to LA to campaign.” shortlist.

Guneet said the start of her Oscar run and married life with husband Sunny Kapoor has been wonderful. She revealed, “I was working all night, even during the honeymoon, trying to do an expedition, so he’s been very helpful. We canceled some of those guided tours.” . With one Oscar to her name and another within arm’s reach, we asked Monga what she looks for in a movie and whether there’s a winning formula at the Academy Awards. “There’s no winning formula. I just go by instinct,” she said, and explained, “It’s such an incredible story that Kartiki Gonsalves, who’s my director, discovered. He then used elephants, Shooted with Boman and Bailey, reached out to them, worked with them, and befriended Raghu. Then he made a pitch trailer and reached out to Netflix with it. Then Netflix reached out to me.

“First of all, who can say no to Baby Elephant? It’s such an understated, spiritual story. I honestly feel like Raghu and Ammu have chosen to tell us their story, which I’m so happy to be a part of.” ” He said.

Talking about Karthik, who is making his directorial debut with this documentary, she says, “When I met Karthik, it was an amazing, pure vision of a storyteller because this is his first project.
