HAL: Argentina shows intent to acquire HAL helicopters; Defense Minister George Taiana visited the PSU. India News – Times of India

Bengaluru: Defense psu Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Thursday stepped up its relationship with Argentina Defense The establishment accompanied the signing of a letter of intent (LOI) with the country’s defense ministry for productive cooperation and acquisition of light and medium utility helicopters for the South American country’s armed forces.
“The LOI was signed George Taiana, Argentina’s Defense Minister and HAL CMD CB Ananthakrishnan, in the presence of International Affairs Secretary Francisco Cafiero, Ambassador Hugo Javier Gobbi, Ambassador Dinesh Bhatia and other senior officials of Argentina and HAL,” the PSU said.
Tayana, who spent several hours at HAL in Bengaluru on Thursday, said the day was a step towards an ever-growing and stronger association with the PSU.
The Argentine Defense Minister and his team witnessed a flight demonstration of various HAL products at the HAL airport before visiting the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and Helicopter Divisions. HAL said the Argentine team “showed keen interest in HAL products”.
Whereas LOI has no legal or financial effect and is only visible ArgentinaHowever, HAL is confident that the Defense Minister of the country himself led a delegation to the PSU.
And as TOI reported earlier, HAL signed a contract with the Argentine Air Force (AAF) to supply spares and repair engines of older two-ton class helicopters during the 2023 Aero India.
Ananthakrishnan had even said in February: “Argentina and Egypt have definitely shown interest in LCA Tejas. Two teams have also visited us in Argentina and they are very confident about the product and very happy with the product description. His Airforce team has also come and flown the plane. So, we’re following up on Argentina and want to start some kind of relationship building.
TOI had reported on July 17 that Argentina wanted India to submit a formal proposal for the proposed acquisition of 16 Tejas fighter jets. In June, Ambassador to Argentina Dinesh Bhatia accompanied a delegation of HAL to showcase the ‘Make in India’ defense production capabilities, especially the Tejas and Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) along with the Taiana, the Argentine Air Force Chief Had met Brigadier General Xavier Isaac.
