Haryana man gets life term, 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping minor | Chandigarh News – Times of India

AMBALA: A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to life with 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl (17) in Haryana’s Ambala district.
Additional sessions judge sentenced Mohan Lal of Saunta village under the Pocso Act, with rigorous imprisonment under Section 3 (2) (v) (punishment for offences atrocities knowing that such person is a member of a SC or a ST) the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) Act and 20 years RI under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Pocso Act.
The court also fined Rs 10,000 each in both offences to convict Mohal Lal and in case of default, he would have to undergo additional imprisonment of six months. The sentences awarded to the convict will run concurrently.
“The offence committed by a convict needs to be condemned in the strongest words with the heaviest punishment”, read the court order.
“In this case, the convict committed aggravated penetrative sexual upon the child victim. Suffered a lot of mental pain and suffering because of the offence”, the court said.
The court also awarded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the survivor girl and referred the case of payment to the district legal services authority.
On August 2, 2021, the Ambala police booked Mohan Lal in this case at the district women police station.
