Sirsa: A fast-track special court in Haryana’s Sirsa on Thursday awarded death sentence to a 55-year-old man for raping his 12-year-old daughter, terming it as the “rarest of the rare” case. The Additional Sessions Judge also sentenced him to 7 years’ rigorous imprisonment for criminal intimidation and a fine of Rs 50,000.
The court said that the fine imposed on the convict would be distributed as compensation to the victim and recommended the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim. Sirsa Mahila Thana police had registered a case rape case against the person on September 28, 2020 following a complaint by his daughter FIR Two days before this, the accused assaulted his wife under the influence of alcohol and threw her out of the house. He then raped his daughter and threatened to kill her.
The court sought death penalty for the convict as a lesser punishment would do grave injustice to the victim and her mother. “By betraying the trust and taking undue advantage of the absence of her mother, the convict has destroyed the chastity of his daughter,” the court said. Before the sentence was announced, the convict had pleaded for leniency.
