Haryana women commission summon Randeep Surjewala over alleged vulgar remarks on Hema Malini | Chandigarh News – Times of India

AMBALA: Haryana State Women Commission (HSWC) on Thursday issued notice to general secretary of Indian National Congress (INC) Randeep Singh Surjewala over his alleged vulgar remarks against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Hema Malini.
HSWC has summoned Surjewala to personally appear before the commission at its office in Sector 4, Panchkula at 10.30 am on April 9, 2024, to record his clarification regarding the remarks.

Summon

An alleged video of Surjewala went viral on social media. In the video, Surjewala is allegedly heard saying, “Why MLA, MP are elected? So that they can raise our voice and get our demands accepted. It is not some Hema Malini, elected for licking.”
Meanwhile, HSWC chairman Renu Bhatia reached Ambala on Thursday, where she addressed the media and strongly condemned the remarks by Surjewal.
Renu Bhatia said, “Surjewala Ji has expressed his mentality. By speaking so, he has shown what kind of upbringing has been given to him about women. It is sad that such people who look good can be so dark in mind. Sadly, so far, the Congress party has not taken any action against him. Surjewala has crossed all limits of vulgarity.”
Renu Bhatia said HSWC immediately took action against Surjewal for these remarks and summoned Surjewal for clarification.
On the other hand, Surjewal wrote on his X handle, “It has become a habit of BJP’s IT Cell to distort and spread fake and false things, so that every day they can divert the attention of country from anti-youth, anti-farmer, anti-poor policies and failures of the Modi government and the conspiracy to destroy the Constitution of India.”
Surjewala said, “Listen to the full video – I said that we also respect Hema Malini Ji a lot. Because she is married to Dharmendra Ji, she is our daughter-in-law.”
“My statement was only that everyone in public life should be accountable to the public, be it Nayab Saini Ji, or Khattar Ji or myself. Everyone becomes or breaks on the basis of their work, the public is supreme, and in elections, it has to choose using its discretion”, he said.
“Neither was my intention to insult Hema Malini Ji nor to hurt anyone. That is why I clearly said that we respect Hema Malini Ji and she is our daughter-in-law. BJP itself is anti-women that is why it sees and understands everything through the lens of anti-women, and spreads lies as per its convenience”, said Surjewala.
