The Mamta Banerjee government of the state has challenged this decision of the High Court in the Supreme Court. The matter will be heard in the court on June 20.

The BJP and the Congress had filed two petitions regarding the violence in the panchayat elections in Bengal. On June 15, a bench of Chief Justice Shivaganaman and Justice Uday Kumar directed the deployment of central forces in sensitive districts.

On this, the Election Commission had said that it will take some time to identify the sensitive places. The court said on this that taking more time would only cause harm.
