A recent bank robbery in the United States was thwarted when a quick-witted cashier convinced the robber to sit still until the police arrived to arrest him.

According to sky NewsThis unusual incident happened on Friday, July 7 at a bank in Florida. The robber, identified as James Timothy Kelly, entered the PNC Bank in Hollywood carrying a fake bag and a note demanding money.

It read, “Give me the money.”

According to an affidavit detailing the case, Mr. Kelly entered the bank and handed the note to a cashier, who pretended not to see it. Instead, the employee, fearing for her safety and the safety of others, gave Mr. Kelly an evacuation slip to fill out. Mr. Kelly then told him, “I’m not here for that. I’m here to rob you”.

At this point, the cashier pretended to be having computer problems and asked the robber to “sit down”.

“Fearing for his safety and the safety of others around him, the victim bank teller pretended to have a computer problem and asked Kelly to be seated,” the affidavit states.

It is said that Mr. Kelly obeyed the cashier, but his non-compliance resulted in a failed robbery attempt. According to sky NewsWhile the robber waited, the police were called to the bank. Police entered the bank through the back entrance and arrested Mr. Kelly while he was sitting in the lobby.

Mr. Kelly was taken to the FBI-Federal Bureau of Investigation-Miami office, where he confessed to the attempted robbery. He now faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for the failed robbery attempt.
