Hi-tech Tunnel Scanner At Cr Parcel Office To Boost Security | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Central Railway’s Nagpur parcel office has installed a cutting-edge parcel tunnel scanner, ensuring minute inspection of parcels before their embarkation onto trains. “This state-of-the-art technology promises to revolutionize the security landscape, fortifying its commitment to the safety and security of parcels in transit,” said Manish Agarwal, divisional railway manager, CR.
“The introduction of parcel scanner marks a pivotal moment. With the capability to detect prohibited and dangerous articles, this advanced scanner serves as a formidable deterrent against potential threats, thereby safeguarding both cargo and commuters,” said Aman Mittal, senior divisional commercial manager. Mittal added that plans are afoot to install similar scanners at Ajni, Betul, and Ballarshah railway stations, depending on the volume of parcel traffic and operation ability.
Under the new mandate, all non-leased parcels, including luggage consignments booked through the parcel office and originating or intermediate leased consignments to be loaded from Nagpur station, will undergo mandatory scanning before loading. The licensee shoulders the responsibility of ensuring accurate scanning of packages, with a post-scanning sticker affixed to each item before booking acceptance. To guarantee 100% scanning coverage, the licensee must maintain a standby power supply, round-the-clock manpower, and the deployment of handheld scanners for packages that couldn’t be scanned initially or are over-dimensional consignments (ODCs).
“Furthermore, a seamless mechanism to mitigate the risk of mishaps or fire incidents due to parcels in trains will be adopted at parcel booking counters, enhancing public safety and thwarting prohibited activities,” said Agarwal.
“Implementing the scanner heralds a new era of security and efficiency. By embracing cutting-edge technology and stringent protocols, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety and security in parcel transportation,” said Mittal.
