Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar has called a meeting of opposition parties on Friday to chalk out a joint strategy to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday expressed hope that the Congress will clear its stand on the Centre’s ordinance on deregulation of administrative services in the national capital at a meeting of non-BJP parties to be held in Patna on June 23.

Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar has called a meeting of opposition parties on Friday to chalk out a joint strategy to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press conference here, AAP national convenor Kejriwal said he would talk to other leaders in the meeting about how such an ordinance can be brought for full states as well. He said he would “explain the dangers of this ordinance to every party present”.

“I will take the Constitution of India with me and explain how this ordinance makes a mockery of it. Just because it has been promulgated only in Delhi, which is often considered a “half state”, does not mean it cannot be promulgated in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Maharashtra. “Ordinance, Center can dissolve all matters falling in Concurrent List of Constitution of India like Education, Electricity.”

“I hope Congress will clear its stand, because in that meeting all other political parties will ask Congress about its stand. The ordinance will be the first issue that will be discussed in the meeting.”

The Center had on May 19 promulgated an ordinance to create an authority for transfer and posting of Group-A officers in Delhi, which the AAP government termed as a hoax with the Supreme Court’s judgment on deregulation of the services. The ordinance came a week after the Supreme Court handed over control of services in Delhi, except police, public order and land, to the elected government.

It seeks to set up a National Capital Civil Services Authority for transfer and disciplinary proceedings against Group-A officers of DANICS cadre. Prior to the apex court’s May 11 verdict, transfers and postings of all officers of the Delhi government were under the executive control of the lieutenant governor.

After the ordinance, Kejriwal has been reaching out to leaders of non-BJP parties to garner support against the ordinance so that the Centre’s attempt to replace it through a bill in Parliament fails.
