Abhishek Bachchan disclosed that he intentionally refrained from consuming alcohol while portraying the character of an alcoholic.

Abhishek Bachchan’s latest film, Ghoomer, released on August 18, has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its unique storyline and standout performances. In the movie, Abhishek portrays the character of Padam Singh Sodhi, an alcoholic coach to Saiyami Kher’s character, Anina. Despite the challenging nature of the role, Abhishek recently shared insights about his decision not to consume alcohol during the filming process.

In a conversation with ETimes, Abhishek revealed his conscious choice to abstain from alcohol while portraying the character. He explained, “If I have to push myself to choose that one thing, I think it would have to be the alcohol. I mean, I didn’t touch a drop of alcohol throughout the making of it. A lot of actors I’ve heard like to sometimes drink and do drunk scenes because it just helps with the realism of it. But it was very clear that I did not want to do that.”

For his character Paddy in Ghoomer, Abhishek Bachchan deliberately chose to flip this narrative, portraying the coach as most in control and lucid while intoxicated. Unlike the conventional depiction of an inebriated character, Abhishek aimed to showcase Paddy as remarkably in control and lucid while intoxicated, challenging preconceived notions. Reflecting on this, he expressed, “We tried to flip it, and that was, I think, a big challenge for me.”

Ghoomar unfolds the inspiring story of a paraplegic sportsperson who triumphs as a cricketer with the steadfast support of her coach. Co-written by R Balki, Rahul Sengupta, and Rishi Virmani, the narrative draws inspiration from the remarkable life of Karoly Takacs, a late Hungarian right-hand shooter who, despite a devastating injury, won two Olympic gold medals. The film also features Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.

Abhishek Bachchan has some exciting projects in the pipeline. The actor is all set to captivate audiences in Sanjay Gupta’s upcoming thriller film, Shootout at Byculla, where he will share the screen with Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Sanjay Dutt, and more. Additionally, he is slated to appear in Farhad Samji’s highly anticipated film, Hera Pheri 3, which marks the third installment of the beloved Hera Pheri franchise. Furthermore, fans can look forward to seeing Abhishek in The Big Bull 2, Oththa Seruppu Size 7, and Be Happy are also among the upcoming projects that the actor has in store.
