Hyderabad to have 100% sewage treatment by this summer: KTR

Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday said Hyderabad will be the only city in the country with 100% sewage treatment as 31 sewage treatment plants built at a cost of Rs 3,866 crore will become operational by April-May.

Similarly, the Rs 1,000-crore Strategic Drain Development Program (SNDP) within the city and suburbs to deal with urban flooding after the monsoon-related floods in October 2020 would be completed by March-April, he claimed.

The minister was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Rs 263-crore 3.3-km multilevel flyover and underpass connecting Miyapur to Hitech City and the financial district and addressing traffic congestion at Kothaguda and Botanical Garden junctions. The flyover is the 34th project out of 47 proposed under the Rs 8,000-crore Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP).

“This year we have plans to start 11 more SRDP projects. No other city has got such importance for creating modern infrastructure at such a rapid pace. The effort is to provide whatever the city needs and improve the standard of living.

The minister said the state government is promoting public transport, with the Airport Metro Express likely to be functional within the next three years and TSRTC planning to introduce 3,000 electric buses to reduce pollution.

Earlier, Serilingampally MLA A. Gandhi said the flyover had been completed on a war footing and thanked the minister for reducing the road widening from the proposed 200 feet to 150 feet to save several properties. Keeping in view the growing needs of residents and employees, an unprecedented ₹150 crore has been spent per municipal division.

Earlier, Shri Rama Rao, GHMC Chief Engineer (Projects) M. Devanand and SE S. Venkataraman was made to cut the ribbon to inaugurate the flyover. He also felicitated Deputy City Planner Ganapathy and Town Planning Supervisor Ravinder for their work at the hands of Ms. Reddy. Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Mayor Srilatha Sobhan Reddy, MLC Vani Devi, MP Ranjith Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, ENC R. Sridhar and others were present.
