With Shivakumar as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, the party registered a landslide victory in the May 10 elections with 135 seats in the 224-member assembly.

A day after taking oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar said that he is not ‘happy’ after the massive victory of the Congress in the recently concluded Assembly elections as the party needs to fight well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024. Needed

With Shivakumar as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, the party won a landslide victory in the May 10 elections with 135 seats in the 224-member assembly, as he appeared to be the “man of the moment”.

He said, ‘We got more than 135 seats in the assembly elections, but I am not happy, don’t come to my or Siddaramaiah’s house. Our next target is the Lok Sabha elections and we should fight well,” Shivakumar said while addressing the party cadre in Bengaluru, according to news agency Year,

Earlier in the day, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah along with Shivakumar paid tributes to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his 32nd death anniversary at the KPCC office in Bengaluru.

On this occasion, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, ‘PM Modi talks about terrorism, no one from BJP has lost his life due to terrorism. BJP keeps saying that we support terrorism but many Congress leaders like Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were killed in terror attacks.

Shivakumar is known as the “troubleshooter” of the Congress. The 61-year-old eight-time MLA, whose organizing skills have earned him full praise by the party’s central leadership especially in the recent high-stakes elections, put up a spirited fight. The Congress relied on Shivakumar, affectionately called ‘Kanakpura Bande (Rock)’ by his supporters, when it wanted to keep its flock together when it faced the trust vote of then Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, and Ahmed Patel was contesting the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat.

A strong Vokkaliga face, the Congress is counting on him to improve the party’s performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He will also continue as the Karnataka state president of the party till the parliamentary elections are over.
