In his career spanning over a decade, actor Vidyut Jammwal has established himself as one of the most sought-after action stars in the Indian film industry, a position he calls his “happy” niche.

The 41-year-old actor-martial artist, known for his performances in the film franchises “Commando” and “Khuda Hafiz”, believes that being ready to do something that has an outstanding role is demanding.

Jamwal told PTI, “I am happy to be defined by action. I feel proud to be typecast. It is not an easy place to be typecast when you want to be the best at what you do.”

He said that he loves action in all its forms, but he does not let it depend only on his choice of film.

The actor said that he always finds the reason behind the stunts.

“For me it is always either fighting for the country in ‘Commando’ or going to save the animals in ‘Junglee’, as no one does. In ‘Khuda Hafiz’, it is about a common man who has never been in a fight.”

In the “Khuda Hafiz” film series written and directed by Farooq Kabir, Jamwal plays the role of Sameer. The first film, based on a true story, follows Sameer as he races through time to rescue his kidnapped wife Nargis from the prostitution.

The second part, “Khuda Hafiz: Chapter 2 – Agni Pariksha”, again sees the couple going through turmoil as they attempt to lead a normal life.

Jamwal said the films gave him the opportunity to enter an “unusual” space where he had to learn a lot of things as a fighter.

“It was unusual for me to play this character as he (Sameer) has never fought in his life. He is fighting with his mind and heart.

“The most challenging task for me was to train myself as a fighter. Everyone asks me ‘What is your dream role?’ But I never had. Now I can say that it was exciting to play this untrained common man.”

Facing your fear is his motto in life, said the actor, who takes the approach he takes while choosing the script.

He said, “My philosophy in life is that I want to do things that scare or scare me. I want to face that fear. That’s what I say when I choose films.”

The next film for Jamwal is “IB71”, which also marks his foray into filmmaking. The actor had announced the project last year.

Without divulging more details about the film, the actor said that he has roped in 30 respected but long forgotten cinema actors in the upcoming film.

“I contacted all my favorite actors, directors and told them about my film ‘IB17’. There are 30 actors in the film. They are all respected, but they have never been exposed,” he said.

‘Khuda Hafiz: Chapter 2’ released in theaters on Friday.
