A private sleeper bus going from Nagpur to Pune overturned on the Samridhi Expressway in Buldhana district late on Friday night. The explosion in the diesel tank started a fire. This resulted in the death of 25 passengers.

8 people including the driver somehow saved their lives. These passengers told how they survived this horrific accident. A passenger told that after the accident he kept shouting for help but people kept making videos. At the same time, another passenger told that he and others were able to get out by breaking the glass of the rear window of the bus.

‘Nobody gave a call to call the fire brigade’
Bus passenger Shashikant Gajbe told- ‘I was on the last seat. All the passengers were sleeping. I woke up in the middle of the night with a loud noise and jolt. There was smoke and screams everywhere. Was suffocating. I broke the glass. Then someone dropped me out. Coming out, I extended my helping hand to other passengers, but they could not get out because of the flames.

Within no time, the entire bus was engulfed in flames. Men and women were shouting. Other vehicles stopped seeing the flames. I was asking for a phone to call the fire brigade, but people kept on making videos. I kept on shouting. No one called. After about half an hour, the fire brigade extinguished the fire after reaching the spot.

Another passenger Yogesh Ramdas Gawai said, ‘I took a bus from Nagpur to Aurangabad. The bus overturned after the accident on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway and immediately caught fire. 3-4 people broke the rear window and got out. Shortly after this, there was a blast in the bus.

The family members of the deceased said – they were made to sit in the bus at night, the news of the accident was received in the morning
Chitra Dagdale, a relative of Avanti Pohnekar, who died in the accident, told that Avanti had recently completed her BE. She was going from Wardha to Pune in search of a job. I talked to her when she left the house. Next morning I heard his mother crying. Then I came to know that an accident has happened.

Another deceased Shreya Vanjari’s brother Anil Jangle told that Shreya and her friend Radhika had left for Pune from Wardha. We came to know about this accident in the morning. Both of them used to work in Pune.

3 dead bodies found wrapped in each other
Kailash Gangavane, a resident of Ambegaon tehsil, had gone to Nagpur with his family to get his son’s admission in college. He was returning from this bus with his wife and daughter. All three died in the accident. Kailash’s cousin Rupesh was told by a policeman that the charred bodies of all three were wrapped around each other.

The accident happened in Buldhana on Friday night
The incident took place late on Friday night in Buldhana, Maharashtra. The bus was on its way from Nagpur to Pune when it caught fire. There were 33 people in the bus, out of which 25 died on the spot due to burns. Three children were also included in these. Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan said that the bus driver and conductor have been taken into custody by the police.
