The report recommended that disruption could be worked around by using virtual private networks that could bypass “government Internet censorship measures”. “Metrics are consistent with an intentional disruption of centrally enforced service on Pakistan’s national Internet backbone.

The organization said, “NetBlock recommends against the use of network blockades and social media bans to limit political speech, given their disproportionate impact on fundamental rights including freedom of expression and freedom of assembly.”

After the arrest of Imran Khan today, protests have been started by PTI workers across Pakistan including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Karachi, Quetta, Mardan, Bannu and Chilas. PTI workers pelted stones at houses, offices and vehicles, burnt banners and tires and blocked roads.

In Faisalabad, a mob pelted stones at the house of Rana Sanaullah. Prominent journalist Talat Hussain said that PTI protesters are at the GHQ in Rawalpindi and the residence of the Corps Commander Lahore. “They can be seen vandalizing the CC residence,” he added.

Following the arrest of Imran Khan, according to several Pakistani media reports, protesters in Pakistan have entered the army commanders’ compound in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
