ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s incarcerated former prime minister, Imran Khan, and other detained suspects were charged with “criminal conspiracy” on Wednesday in connection with the attacks on government and military assets and properties on May 9 this year. The maximum penalty under the charge is death.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, SSP (investigation) Anoosh Masood said nine additional sections pertaining to treason have been included in the challans for the cases of vandalism and violence that erupted after the deposed PM’s arrest in an alleged graft case on May 9.
The investigation official said evidence of inciting mutiny and planning vandalism have been found against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief. According to Masood, all cases related to the May 9 incidents now include Section 120(B) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which deals with punishment for criminal conspiracy. She also mentioned that the prosecution addressed all objections raised before submitting the case records to the court.
