Imran Khan gets bail till June 8 in ‘hate speech’ cases, will appear in Lahore High Court today in connection with violence on May 9

by Hamza Amir: Imran Khan was on Tuesday granted bail till June 8, 2023 in the cases registered against him.

Khan was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court.

The cases against the former Prime Minister of Pakistan were registered in the context of statements made by him against government institutions.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court is set to hear on Tuesday Imran Khan’s bail plea in terrorism cases lodged against him following his arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, which sparked violent protests by his supporters.

On Monday, Khan appeared in the Lahore High Court along with his wife Bushra Bibi, who was granted anticipatory bail till May 23 by the high court in the case.

The LHC granted anticipatory bail till May 23 to Bushra Bibi in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The court, however, fixed for Tuesday Khan’s bail plea in the terrorism cases lodged against him following the May 9 violence. LHC Registrar Office has objected to the non-attachment of the seized copies of the orders of the Supreme Court and the Islamabad High Court, a court official told PTI.

Justice Safdar Salim Shahid fixed May 16 for hearing Khan’s plea after his counsel assured to make provision for the orders of the court.

Lawyers for Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said they were aware of the cases registered against the former Pakistan prime minister.

As Khan is facing over 100 cases, Bushra has been named in two cases – Toshakhana (gift) and Al-Qadir Trust case.

Last week, the PTI chief got interim bail in six cases registered against him for setting fire to the house of Corps Commander Lahore and other incidents of violence following his arrest.

Khan returned to his Lahore home on Saturday Fearing re-arrest, despite being granted bail on Friday, he locked himself inside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises for hours.
